Though it took many years, Storm, a model and pre-med student, has learned to embrace who she is and feel confident in her skin. After discovering a white patch under her arm and noticing her lips get lighter, Storm was diagnosed with vitiligo—a condition that causes cells in the body to stop producing melanin, resulting in discolored skin patches—at age seven. "It affected my self-esteem and confidence growing up because people made me feel like I wasn't 'normal' and I was ugly because of how my skin looks," Storm says.
To avoid being bullied, Storm decided to hide her white patches with makeup every day before high school. But after covering up her skin for so many years, she was ready for a fresh start in college. "I wanted to embrace who I was, so I made the impulsive decision to stop wearing makeup," Storm says. "My first day of college was the first day I had gone without makeup in two years."
Going makeup-free was eye-opening for Storm in many ways, and it helped her to realize the importance of taking care of her skin. "I wasn't really concerned about skincare in high school because my skin was covered up with makeup, but as my vitiligo gradually spread and I stopped wearing makeup, I started to take it extremely seriously," she says. "I really started to focus on the health of my skin and the products that help it glow."

Storm's skin is sensitive, oily, and prone to acne, which makes cleansing an important step in her skincare routine. "My vitiligo spots are extremely sensitive," she says. "I can't have anything that's too abrasive, but I also need something that's going to combat my oily skin." She's found Keys Soulcare Golden Cleanser to be effective in cleansing, nourishing, and refreshing her complexion. "This cleanser doesn't leave my skin dry at all," she says. "It's very balanced and soothing."
After cleansing, Storm uses CeraVe's Resurfacing Retinol Serum, which is packed with ceramides to help reduce the visibility of pores and even out her skin's texture and tone. She then follows up with The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, a water-based vitamin and mineral formula that minimizes enlarged pores and smooths over textural irregularities. "The Ordinary is the absolute best!" Storm raves. "This serum is lightweight and nourishing, and it really balances out the oils on my face."
With help from her gentle-yet-effective regimen, Storm has learned to embrace her skin and redefine what beauty means to her. "I feel like a goddess when my skin looks and feels its best," she says.
