As someone with an oily complexion, beauty blogger Felicia has learned that creating the perfect skincare routine is less about trying all the trendy new products and more about finding solutions that address your skin’s specific needs.
“Pay attention to how you skin responds to specific ingredients and formulations,” she explains. “The magic happens when you tune out the trends and tune into your skin’s needs.”
When it comes to choosing products, Felicia’s primary goal is brightening her skin and refining its texture. She also stays on top of potential future needs by keeping a wide range of products on hand. “If I’m in a breakout phase, I reach for a clarifying cleanser with acne neutralizing ingredients,” she says. “If my skin is dry and needs moisture, I cleanse with a micellar water.”
Felicia also believes consistency is what leads to results, which is why her current regimen consists of tried-and-true ingredients, like glycolic acid and retinol. She’s a fan of Tula’s Get Toned Pro-Glycolic 10% Resurfacing toner, which is alcohol-free and enriched with glycolic acid, beetroot extract, and probiotics to help exfoliate and hydrate skin. “It’s a really gentle way to work glycolic acid into your routine,” she explains. “Follow it with a serum or moisturizer so your skin gets a little buffer, which helps if you’re new to using glycolic acid.” One of her favorites is the Mad Hippie Vitamin A Serum. It’s vegan and contains HPR, a new form of vitamin A, as well as phytoceramide, oat beta glucan, aloe vera, and sodium hyaluronate to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Felicia likes her nighttime skin care routine to focus on repair, which is why she uses Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex Serum. The formula contains hyaluronic acid to help lock in moisturize for up to 72 hours. “This serum is the OG of this category,” she says. “I constantly go back to it when I feel like my skin needs a reset.”
Ultimately, she believes the key to making a daily skincare routine work is consistency. “Caring for my skin has always been my happy place,” Felicia says. “I love the daily ritual of looking in the mirror, assessing the day’s needs, and digging into my arsenal to decide which products I’ll use.”
